Projects in ZSearch

Projects in ZSearch provide a focused workspace for working with enterprise knowledge. They help users move from broad discovery to targeted exploration by organizing selected search results into a dedicated context for deeper analysis and collaboration.

Projects are central to in-depth work in ZSearch. While enterprise search enables users to discover information across systems, projects allow teams to work with a defined set of documents in a controlled and intentional way.

A project in ZSearch is a scoped environment created from selected search results. It defines:

  • Which documents are included

  • Who can collaborate on the project

  • How the AI behaves within the project

All searches, AI interactions, and collaboration within a project are strictly limited to the documents explicitly added to that project.

How projects are created

Projects are created from search results. After running a search, users can select one or more documents and either:

  • Create a new project using the selected files

  • Add the files to an existing project

This ensures that every project is grounded in enterprise knowledge that has already been discovered through search.

What you can do inside a project

Within a project, users can:

  • Search and query only the files added to the project

  • Interact with an AI assistant that uses the project’s files as context

  • Add or remove documents as the project evolves

  • Invite collaborators to work together

  • Define search instructions to guide AI behavior

Projects persist across sessions and can be accessed at any time from My projects.

Projects and access control

Projects respect enterprise security and access controls:

  • Users can only add files they are authorized to access

  • Collaborators must also have permission to the underlying documents

  • AI responses are always grounded in permitted content

Access controls are enforced automatically and consistently.

When to use projects

Projects are ideal when users need to:

  • Conduct focused research on a specific topic

  • Review or analyze a defined set of documents

  • Collaborate with teammates on shared enterprise knowledge

  • Ask repeated or complex questions within a fixed context

Projects help reduce noise and ensure that work remains relevant and traceable. What’s Covered Next
